Thomas has been a Licensed Acupuncturist since 1992. He graduated from the Oregon College of Oriental medicine with a Master's Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental medicine. Following graduation, Tom began his acupuncture career working for Central City Concern in Portland, Oregon. Central City Concern sponsored acupuncture in several of its inpatient and outpatient treatment centers including Hooper Memorial Detox. Through his work there, he gained valuable experience using acupuncture as treatment for both chemical addiction and HIV+ adults. At Central City Concern, Thomas saw how powerfully the low cost Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine treatments they offered affected patients who were unable to afford standard medical care.

In 1995 Tom moved to the Central Pennsylvania area and went into private practice until 2005. In 2005, he returned to his home town of Columbus to work in private practice until 2010 where he then moved to Pittsburgh and continued his practice. Frequent work with Penn State brought Tom back to State College in 2015.

In 2003 Tom had the very good fortune of being able to spend a year studying with teachers form the Toyo Hari branch of North America where he learned the art of Japanese meridian acupuncture. Tom Has also studied with Japanese master of moxibustion Junji Mizutani in 2012 and Meridian therapy master Murata Morihiro who has taken over the teaching schedule of the legendary Shudo Denmei in recent years due to Sensei Shudo's advanced age. Tom has studied with NYC based Kanpo instructor Nigel Dawes as well. Japanese Meridian Therapy and Kanpo have been the cornerstones of Tom's practice since 2004.
